P&K Segment
While it can be a bit confusing, it is important to understand what each letter means. In short, fertilizers are labeled N, P, or K to indicate the amount of nutrients in the form of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). All three are important for plant development.
P& K Segment |
Nitrogen Segment |
---|---|
Can be used in straight/complex form | Urea is the primary fertilizer |
Segment iiivas decontrolled by the Govt. in 2010 | Pricing to distribution is entirely controlled by the Govt. |
Govt. announces fixed rate of subsidy (Rs. per kg basis) based on the nutrient content | Completely subsidized - Govt reimburses urea producers for the cost of production |
Manufacturersiimporters can decide the retail price based on demand & supply eg. MOP Rs,-18k/- per MT Demand for DAP & Complex was -21million torts in 2021-22 | MRP is fixed by the Govt. Currently at Rs. 268/- 50kge bag Demand for Urea in |
-40-50% of domestic consumption demand of DAP and -100% of MOP is imported | India was ~34 million tons in 2021-22 ~20-25% of domestic consumption demand is imported |
